There is a particular quality to the light in Gozo just after sunrise. It spills across the limestone in a way that feels almost deliberate, as if the island is composing itself for the day ahead.

The first hour

I arrived at the harbour before the cafés opened. The fishing boats — luzzus, painted in their bright blues and yellows — sat perfectly still on water like glass.

The best photographs are often the ones you almost didn't take.

A few things I always carry on these early mornings:

  • A single prime lens, nothing more
  • A flask of coffee
  • Patience, mostly

Why I keep coming back

Every visit teaches me something about waiting. About letting a moment arrive instead of chasing it.
